SNCF Bulk Carrier T1 - 607 3 178-8

This series of waggons with the identification marking T1 (Railtrans nomenclature) otherwise Fbs, are painted reddish-brown and were originally used as mill transport waggons.

Overall length between buffers: 14m, wheelbase: 8.5m, Load capacity: 103mē.

The vehicle is designed for the transport of wood pulp (wood chips and sawdust) but serves also for transport of waste paper, rags and rubbish.

The waggons are supplied with Knorr Type airbrakes. Many are equipped with a 3-spoked handbrake. They have rectangular buffers. The access ladder is arranged at the end of the waggon. An inspection port is situated on one side. The standard capacity has been increased by about 10mē by the addition of extra space below the chassis between the bogies. The upper walls are rigid and the waggons are emptied by the use of a dredger. The inner surfaces of the side walls are smooth and in the midsection considerably strengthened.

These waggons are used in large numbers especially in block trains for the transport of wood shavings, sawdust, rags and waste paper and traffic systematically between large sawmills, waste heaps and paper mills throughout Europe.

Many of these high capacity waggons have been constructed on the chassis of old waggons of other types and are registered and accepted by SNCF and other rail undertakings.

The original reddish brown paint darkens with use from rust and sticky brake dust.
