SNCF 'SCHWAIGER HOLZ' Bulk Carrier T4 - 607 3 069-3
This private wagon series from the Railtrans Company type T4 (Railtrans mark) otherwise Fbs of clear-gray colour, bearing the name of an important customer "SCHWAIGER HOLZ", is registered with the SNCF.
Overall length between buffers: 14m, Wheelbase: 8.5m, Load capacity: 103mē.
The vehicle is designed for the transport of wood pulp (wood chips and sawdust). The wagon is fitted with Knorr type airbrakes, and many with a 5-spoked wheel handbrake. The wagons have round or rectangular buffers and some have a heavy handrail over the ladders at each end while many lack a handrail. The outside access ladder is situated at the end of the waggon. Two inspection ports are situated at diagonally opposite corners. The outer chassis is slightly tapered to the buffer backplate. The standard capacity has been increased by about 10mē by the addition of extra space below the chassis between the bogies. The front walls are equipped with hinged doors enabling the waggon to be emptied over the buffers. The inner surfaces of the walls are smooth lined so that the load can pass out without hindrance. The Railtrans company's private waggons are used in large numbers throughout Europe especially in block trains to transport wood chips and sawdust between the large sawmills and paper mills. Many high capacity wagons of Railtrans company were built in France on the chassis of old SNCF wagons of different types. The originally light-grey, nearly white lacquer finish appears rust-red-orange after longer employment by the adherent brake dust.
